Verna S. Groff, age 98, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Bethany Village Retirement Community. Born June 6, 1913 in Manheim, PA, she was a daughter of the late Jacob H. and Barbara Ann (Hess) Shenk.
Verna was formerly employed at Deiner’s Restaurant and was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Mechanicsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. Groff and by her son, Kenneth R. Groff. Verna is survived by her son, Larry E. Groff and wife Doris of Crofton, MD; her daughter, Judith G. Hull and husband W. Kenneth Hull of Grantham, PA; daughter Gloria G. Knittle and husband F. James Knittle, Jr. of Ocean View, DA; her daughter-in-law, Helen T. Groff; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; as well as her siblings, Samuel Shenk, Frances Heisey, and Blanche Werner, all of Lancaster County.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 12 at Malpezzi Funeral Home where there will be a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Entombment will take place in Rolling Green Cemetery.
Verna’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to all of the dedicated staff at Bethany Village, especially those in the Oaks Skilled Nursing, who showed great compassion and care for Verna and her family during her years there.
