Anna T. McKendrick

Anna T. McKendrick, age 91, of Heritage Harbor at Claremont Nursing Home and formerly of Mechanicsburg passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born July 5, 1920 in Branchdale, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Hritz) Sabadish.

She graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing, Philadelphia and was a Registered Nurse for many years at Seidle Hospital, having worked primarily in the maternity area. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg and the Third Order of Carmelites. Ann was a staunch supporter of the Dominican Nuns in Lancaster and the South Mountain Restoration Center. For many years she hosted dinners in her home for Diocesan Seminarians. Her door was always open.

She was wife to Charlie, mom to her four children whom she loved beyond measure, grandma to her beloved grandchildren - the lights of her life, loving sister to her six siblings, Aunt Anna to her many nieces and nephews, nurse of excellence to those whom she cared for with great grace, faithful Carmelite to her sisters in Christ, friend of many with a gracious and giving spirit and one of God’s most loyal and loving servants. Her faith without question was an example to all that she encountered on her journey through this life. All of us who have been blessed with the gift of being part of her journey will forever remember the gift of her presence in our lives. She helped to make us who we are today. She touched so many that it would be impossible to list them all here but all were special to her and held in her prayers on a daily basis.

The widow of Charles Patrick McKendrick, she is survived by her children, Robert M. McKendrick and wife Sue, Francis J. McKendrick all of Mechanicsburg and Mary Smedley of Laurel, MD, daughter-in-law Jan McKendrick of Hagerstown, MD, nine grandchildren, and two sisters, Madeline Rizzi of Minersville and Veronica Sabol of Camp Hill.

Her son Charles Patrick McKendrick Jr., son in law Mark Smedley, Sr. and siblings, Joseph, Michael “Jack”, and John Sabadish and Mary Bowman preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Chester P. Snyder as celebrant. There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery on May 3 at 1:00 pm.

Anna’s family would like to acknowledge the loving and professional care given her by the staff at both Claremont Nursing Home and Holy Spirit Hospital.

Memorials may be made to Heritage Harbor at Claremont Nursing Home
