Joann A. Whitmire, age 79, of Silver Spring Township, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at her home with her loving family by her side. Born April 3, 1933 in Enola, she was a daughter of the late King and Amelia (Eltz) Eslinger.
Joann retired in 2003 from the PA Department of Labor and Industry after 40 years of dedicated service. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Enola, the Capital City Polka Dancers Association, and the Red Hat Society. Joann enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and recently traveled to California as well as to Israel with her two sisters.
Joann was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth W. Whitmire. Surviving are her three children, Vickie Yeager and her husband Glenn, Richard and his wife Dana all of Mechanicsburg, Steven and his wife Barbara of Enola; six grandchildren, Heather, Andrew, Tim, Kevin, Lindsay, and Jenna; four great-grandchildren, Conner, Callie, Cameron, and Caitlyn; and her siblings, John, Joe, Joyce, Connie, Jean, and Jim, all of Mechanicsburg.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 9 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg with Elder George H. Hamm officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family in Stone Church Cemetery, Enola.
