Rhoda C. Wickwire

Rhoda C. Wickwire, age 95 passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg. Born November 17, 1916 in Winthrop, MA she was a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Philomena A. (Perrera) Corinha.

After graduating from high school in Winthrop, MA, Rhoda attended business school and held various office jobs until marrying Warren following WW II. As she raised her children, she moved around the country following her husband’s naval career, before settling in Mechanicsburg, in 1967. She retired from H & R Block where she had a 25 year career in the Harrisburg area, including 8 years in which she ran her own satellite office in Elizabethtown and was licensed to argue before the IRS in the case of an audit. She continued, after retiring, to work part time at a local tax preparation office. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and was involved with its Easter Egg program. She had been an avid bridge player in her younger years and loved word puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Warren “Wick” Peter Wickwire, along with a sister Margaret “Peggy” Wheaton and a brother Joseph F. Corinha Jr.

She is survived by six children, Karen Respress of Sarasota, FL, Paula Sylvester of Mechanicsburg, W. Peter Wickwire Jr. (Deborah) of Camp Hill, Kris Wickwire (Vicki) of Lewisberry, Gail Wickwire of Camp Hill and Michele Wickwire (Larry Camuso) of Harrisburg; six grandchildren Steven Downing (Monica) of Aurora, CO, Brandon Brocia (Theresa) of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Joshua Wickwire of York Haven, Alexis Wickwire of Silver Spring, MD, Alicia Baughman (Travis) of Mechanicsburg and Eric Wickwire of Camp Hill and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with the Rev. Msgr. William J. King, J.C.D. as celebrant. There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, PA. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church, 310 Hertzler Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110 or Salvation Army, 20 East Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
