Dorothy M. Kennedy

Dorothy M. Kennedy, age 85, of Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, passed away Sunday, June 24 at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born May 16, 1927 in Reading, PA, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Carrie (Adams) Stover.

Dorothy retired from Bell Telephone, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and was formerly a member of the Bowmansdale Church of God. Dorothy’s life passion revolved around knitting and needlepoint. Blessed with a tremendous and perfecting skill, she created countless knitted items throughout her life, but perhaps took greatest pride in knitting caps that were given to penguins harmed in the Exxon-Valdez oil spill a number of years ago. Dorothy was also an avid game and puzzle player, was known as a wonderfully generous and charitable person, and had a great sense of humor.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Kennedy; by her siblings, Leon, Willard, Richard, Kenneth, Ronald, Mary, and Lynwood; and by her niece, Suzette. Surviving is her sister, Martha Worthington of Orlando, FL; her brothers, David Stover of Denver, PA, and Kerry Stover of Shillington, PA; her nieces, Michele and husband John, Vicki, and Janet; and her nephews, Brent, Johnny, Marc, Ricky, Gary, Erick, and Joshua. Dorothy is also survived by her close, longtime family friend, Harrold Bretz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 27 at the Messiah Village Chapel where there will be a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial will take place in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Siddonsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Village Endowment Fund, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
