George W. Herman, Jr.

U.S. Veteran

George W. Herman, Jr. 96 formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at the St. Anne’s Retirement Community, Columbia, PA. Born April 22, 1916 in Jim Thorpe, PA he was the son of the late George W. Herman, Sr. and Cora (Moyer) Herman.

George was a US Army veteran of World War II and continued his military career retiring as Chief Warrant Officer after 25 years of dedicated service. Completing his military career, George focused on his civilian life. He retired from REA Express as a District Manager and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for over 30 years; the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 and the 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion.

George was preceded in death by his wife Anna B. (Jubik) Herman and by his five brothers. Surviving are his four children Christine A. Sharp of Conestoga; George “Tim” Herman of Carlisle; Frederick M. Herman of Campbell, CA; Theodore J. Herman of Lytle, TX; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg with viewing held from 10:00 to 11:30 AM in the church Narthex. Burial with full military honors will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of George to St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 or to the Brethren in Christ World Missions, 431 Grantham Rd., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
