Anne Brubaker Shields

Anne Brubaker Shields, age 84 of Mechanicsburg, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Messiah Village. Born February 27, 1928 in Perkasie, PA, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Esther (Swenk) Yeakel.

She graduated from Temple University in 1949 where she was a member of Delta Zeta and did graduate work at Penn State University. Anne enjoyed athletics and while attending Perkasie High School was part of an undefeated girl’s basketball team. She retired from Mechanicsburg Area School District after many years of service as a health and physical education teacher. She coached girl’s basketball and field hockey at several schools and coached an undefeated girl’s basketball team while at Boiling Springs High School. She was a member of Shepherdstown United Methodist Church, a past worthy matron of Trio Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was the widow of William E. Brubaker and preceded in death by her brother Lloyd Yeakel.

Surviving are her husband Charles E. Shields, a daughter Joanne M. Schell of Mechanicsburg, a son William L Brubaker and wife Terre of Wheeling, WV, two step sons Charles E. Shields III and wife Debbie Beamer of Mechanicsburg and Carl Shields and wife Susanne of Brookhaven, three grandchildren William Robert and Kathryn Anne Brubaker and Margaret Gelsinger and husband Jesse and a great granddaughter Addyson Gelsinger and her sister-in-law Jean Yeakel.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Shepherdstown UM Church, 1934 S. York Street, Mechanicsburg where there will be a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110 or Messiah Village Endowment Fund 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055
